Privyet delegates! Welcome to Pripyat, 1986. This shining city was built in the image of the Soviet Union. It serves as a beacon of progress and is a thriving example of all the good things, and other things, our friend the atom can accomplish. In light of the upcoming May Day holiday, it will be this committee’s responsibility to ensure the celebration goes on without a hitch! Delegates will be tasked with planning the May Day celebration and addressing any problems that arise by using their unique powers over different parts of our beloved city. Pripyat’s nuclear technicians work tirelessly to upkeep the plant and pioneer technological progress. The citizens of Pripyat are eagerly awaiting this celebration, and their safety and enjoyment will be up to you. Best of luck!
About your director:
Hello delegates! My name is Noelle Matthias and I use any/ all pronouns. I am so thrilled to be your crisis director this year at SunMUN I! I am a sophomore at UF studying International Studies with an emphasis in Latin America and the Caribbean, and I am minoring in Food and Resource Economics and International Development and Humanitarian Assistance. This is only my second year doing MUN and I am honored to be serving as the club’s secretary, the USG of Media Design for GatorMUN, and a SunMUN director. In all honesty, my choice of this committee topic stems from a childhood fear of the impacts of radiation. This fear cultivated an interest in and the immense power of nuclear energy, whether it be used for good or bad. I hope that, through this committee, you will be able to understand and overcome the challenges of Chernobyl and explore the concepts of nuclear development, political tension, and social organization that will all come into play.
