The World Health Organization is a specialized body dedicated to the progress of international public health. Founded in 1948, the WHO partners with nations, organizations, and leaders to promote public health, safety, and respond to health emergencies.Their greater goal is to expand and promote healthcare coverage globally, so that each individual has the right to a healthy life. However, topics of the World Health Organization range from mental health, to crisis management, to vaccine coverage, to strengthening health practices, to sexual health and wellness, to combating with outbreaks as they form. Its nature as the UN’s proprietor for health and wellness establishes its necessity for breadth in topics and solutions within Member States. WHO works with 194 Member States within the UN to do so, basing themselves in the basic principles of right to health. As members of the World Health Organization, you will be tasked with solving real-world health concerns, promoting greater health practices, and understanding the greater scope of healthcare coverage and what that applies to. The WHO’s scope is ever evolving, especially in the fast paced and shifting climate we live in, and understanding this and global needs in healthcare and healthcare coverage will be essential to success and viability as times change.

About your director:
Hi! My name is Archer Cyr Halbert and I’m your director for the World Health Organization (WHO). I’m a senior, studying Geological Science at UF. My love for Model UN pairs with an interest in overall global policy, and I have participated in MUN through my high school career and now into college. My directing repertoire ranges from sci-fi, to space based, and now to a more traditional Model UN committee. I also hope that, aside from research, you as delegates bring innovative and out-of-the-box ideas to the problems at hand. When not planning for conferences, I enjoy losing at Jackbox games with my roommate, adding to an extensive rock collection, and practicing their newfound talent of bouldering, as well as preparing to graduate in the fall and attend grad school next year. I am very excited to be your director for the first ever SUNMUN and hope to foster creative and inspiring solutions to real world issues!
